Iranian Border Forces Confiscate 49 Firearms and 153kg Drugs in Crackdown on Smuggling
Iranian border forces have successfully intercepted a cache of 49 firearms, comprising 19 military-grade and 30 hunting weapons, in addition to confiscating 153 kilograms of illicit drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine, and opium. The seizures were made during operations aimed at dismantling organized smuggling networks.
Brigadier General Ali-Akbar Javidan, the head of Iran’s Border Guard Police, revealed on Sunday that recent operations have successfully intercepted goods potentially hazardous to national security. These measures are part of an ongoing effort to safeguard the country’s borders.
Javidan announced that through the strategic deployment of intelligence measures, operational oversight, and advanced optical technology, the vigilant border guards successfully intercepted and seized the shipments before they could cross into the country.
Over the past week, a sequence of combat and surprise raids has been executed, focusing on dismantling organized arms and drug-smuggling networks along Iran’s borders.
Javidan announced that the operations also led to the collapse of arms trafficking networks and the detention of five smugglers, who were subsequently turned over to judicial authorities following the preparation of legal case files.
“Certain smuggling networks aim to move these consignments to incite unrest and engage in sabotage activities. However, border security forces, maintaining high alertness, are determined to thwart these plans,” he stated.
Javidan has issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, arms smugglers, and individuals attempting unauthorized entry into Iran, indicating that the border guards of the Islamic Republic are vigilant and resolute, and will address any threats to border security with unwavering determination.
Seizures occur against a backdrop of multiple assertions from US and Israeli officials, who have confirmed ongoing endeavors to supply weapons and equipment to militant factions within Iran.
Trump acknowledged on April 6 that the United States had made efforts to supply weapons to militant groups active near the Iran-Iraq border.
On June 23, it was disclosed by former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett that Israel had stealthily transported communications devices, encompassing Starlink receivers, into Iran. This operation aimed to assist anti-government factions in sustaining communication and orchestrating their operations.
