Yemen Launches Retaliatory Strikes on Saudi Industrial Sites Amid Escalating Tensions
Yemen's Armed Forces launched missile attacks targeting industrial facilities in Jizan, located in southwestern Saudi Arabia. This move comes as a direct response to the ongoing hostilities initiated by Saudi Arabia on the crucial port city of Al-Hudaydah in Yemen.
On Saturday, a series of strikes were executed following a spate of Saudi military offensives on a facility located in Al-Hudaydah, western Yemen. The Saudi forces also aimed at Kamran Island, an action that led Yemeni air defenses to compel Saudi aircraft to exit Yemen’s airspace.
In response to the recent hostilities, Yemen’s foreign ministry has issued a warning to Saudi Arabia, stating that the kingdom would be held accountable for any repercussions resulting from the aggressive actions.
The ministry has stated that the Saudi regime will be held accountable for any repercussions that may arise from its recent actions, which have been deemed criminal.
The move has drawn criticism towards Riyadh for opting for aggression rather than addressing Sana’a’s call to lift the prolonged blockade on the economically troubled nation of the Arab Peninsula.
The statement declared that rather than responding to what it described as a legitimate and just call to end the blockade on Yemen, the Saudi administration has made a significant miscalculation that could prove to be very costly.
‘Tit for Tat: A Cycle of Escalation’
The recent assaults, it stated, are poised to change the dynamics of the conflict.
The ministry stated that targeting Al-Hudaydah signifies that “escalation for escalation” will define the upcoming phase.
Hazem al-Assad, a prominent figure within the Political Bureau of Yemen’s Ansarullah movement, issued a warning of possible retaliation after recent strikes.
He stated, “For every port, there will be a port; for every airport, an airport, and any escalation will be countered with a more significant escalation.”
On Thursday, Yemen’s Armed Forces announced their intention to persist with retaliatory naval actions against Saudi targets, adhering to Sana’a’s “siege for a siege” strategy. This statement followed an operation that targeted two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea.
Earlier this month, Sana’a announced the immediate implementation of a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia. Military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree cautioned that any increase in hostilities from Saudi Arabia would be met with a “comprehensive and severe response.”
