Iran’s UN Envoy: US, ‘Israel’ responsible for innocent lives lost

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations has condemned the United States’ continued interference in Iran’s internal affairs, warning that Washington’s approach, rooted in regime change, will once again end in failure.
In a post published on X, the Iranian Mission stated, “U.S. fantasies and policy toward Iran are rooted in regime change, with sanctions, threats, engineered unrest, and chaos serving as the modus operandi to manufacture a pretext for military intervention. This playbook has failed before. The Iranian people will defend their country—and, most assuredly, it will fail again.”
The statement came in parallel with a formal diplomatic letter dated January 13, 2026, sent by Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the President of the UN Security Council. The letter addressed recent remarks by the President of the United States, who publicly incited Iranian protesters to escalate unrest, calling on them to “KEEP PROTESTING — TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! … HELP IS ON ITS WAY.”
The letter strongly condemned the US President’s statement as a reckless provocation that incites violence, threatens Iran’s national sovereignty, and violates international law.
It warned that such rhetoric represents a “flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law” enshrined in the UN Charter, particularly the prohibition on the threat or use of force and the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
According to the letter, the remarks must be understood in the context of a wider campaign of aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, including:
- The 12-day war of aggression in June 2025
- The so-called “maximum pressure” strategy
- Unlawful unilateral sanctions
- Social and economic destabilization
- The incitement of youth to confront the Iranian government
- A systematic spread of insecurity
The mission held the United States and the Israeli regime legally responsible for the loss of innocent civilian lives, especially among the youth, resulting from their destabilizing policies.
Iran urges UN action
The letter called on the Secretary-General, the Security Council, and UN member states to:
- Condemn all forms of incitement to violence, threats of force, and interference in Iran’s internal affairs by the US and “Israel”
- Demand an immediate end to destabilizing policies
- Warn the US against military miscalculations
- Uphold the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of the Islamic Republic of Iran
