Iraqi Security Forces Execute Covert Intelligence Operation in Syria
In an uncommon venture beyond its borders, Iraq's security forces executed a special operation within Syrian territory, capturing two pivotal suspects associated with the movement of weapons and terror operatives into Iraq, according to a senior Iraqi security official.

Iraqi security forces have successfully conducted a precision operation within Syrian borders, targeting critical weapons and terrorist networks, Al Mayadeen reports. Officials hailed this as a significant advancement in Iraq’s intelligence and counterterrorism capabilities.
Major General Saad Ma’an, the head of the Security Media Cell and Director of Relations and Information at Iraq’s Ministry of Interior, announced that the operation successfully led to the arrest of two key figures involved in orchestrating the movement of weapons and terrorist operatives towards the Iraqi border.
The mission, according to reports, was the result of over five months of exhaustive intelligence efforts, during which Iraqi agencies meticulously monitored the activities and connections of the suspects. The Suqour [Hawks] Cell, a specialized intelligence and counter-terrorism unit, implemented a combination of advanced technical surveillance and human intelligence to carry out the operation successfully.
Ma’an reports that the two individuals targeted were actively involved in organizing the transfer of weaponry and militants from Syrian camps into Iraq, creating a considerable security risk. The mission was executed by an air-mobile unit skilled in rapid deployment and precision strikes within hostile zones, effectively preventing casualties and eliminating any chance of escape.
He noted that the operation was executed in close collaboration with Syrian security forces and the International Coalition. This highlights a transformation in Iraq’s security approach from merely reacting to crises to engaging in proactive, intelligence-led counterterrorism efforts.
The operation, as reported by Ma’an, signifies Iraq’s enhanced capability to extend its security reach beyond its own borders, effectively disrupting terrorist supply chains before they infiltrate Iraqi territory. This development marks a new phase in the region’s efforts towards coordinated counterterrorism initiatives.
