On Friday, Palestinian factions reached a consensus for an independent committee composed of technocrats to assume control over the administration of Gaza in the aftermath of the conflict.

In a meeting held in Cairo, a joint statement released on the Hamas website announced that the factions have consented to transfer the governance of the Gaza Strip to an interim Palestinian committee, which will consist of independent technocrats.

The committee stated it will oversee the management of daily life and essential services, working in partnership with Arab counterparts and international organizations.

The announcement stated that the factions have committed to collaborating on forming a unified stance to address the challenges confronting the Palestinian cause.

A call has been made for a convening of all political forces and factions with the aim of reaching a consensus on a national strategy and to reinvigorate the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) as the exclusive legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

Hamas is not affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which is predominantly influenced by its rival faction, Fatah.

Delegations representing Hamas and Fatah convened in Cairo to deliberate over the second phase of a US-supported ceasefire initiative in Gaza, according to an informed source speaking to AFP on Thursday.

According to a source who requested anonymity, both parties have concurred to perpetuate discussions in the forthcoming period and focus on structuring the Palestinian internal front to confront challenges presented by the Israeli government.

In parallel with the ongoing Hamas-Fatah discussions, Egypt’s intelligence chief, Hassan Rashad, engaged in meetings with senior representatives from key Palestinian factions.

The lineup comprised Islamic Jihad, a Hamas ally, alongside the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, both factions within the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).
