Tehran in no rush to resume ties with Syria: Spokesman

Saying that Iran closely monitors developments in Syria while supporting regional stability, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that Tehran is in no rush for the resumption of ties with Damascus.
Speakign at his weekly presser on Monday, Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Syria’s fate must be decided by its own citizens, without foreign interference or pressure. He stressed that regional peace and security are closely linked to stability in Syria.
On bilateral relations, Baghaei noted that Tehran is in no rush to make decisions in this regard. “While we are open to engagement with all countries in the region and believe that stability in Syria is essential for the security of the entire region, we continue to follow developments there carefully,” he said.
Baghaei added that it is ultimately up to the Syrian rulers to determine how to manage their interactions with other regional states.
