Egypt to host Trump plan talks between Tel Aviv, Hamas

Negotiations between Tel Aviv and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, are set to begin in Egypt on Sunday in the light of Hamas’ positive response to the general outlines of Trump’s plan.

According to the scheduled program, US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff will travel to the region.

The Israeli regime is also preparing to send a negotiating team to Cairo instead of Qatari capital of Doha.

It is reported that the talks will begin in Cairo tomorrow and the Egyptian side will be in charge of managing the details and the American side will be in charge of the generalities of the negotiations.

Some media outlets have said that these negotiations are likely to be long and complex and include reviewing the first phase of Trump’s plan.

Hamas says that it accepts several parts of US President Donald Trump’s plan for a ceasefire in Israel’s nearly two-year war on Gaza, but that some elements require further negotiations.

Hamas handed over its response to Trump’s 20-point plan for a ceasefire on Friday, an informed source told Al Jazeera.

In a statement, the Palestinian group announced that it has approved “to release all occupation captives – both living and the remains – according to the exchange formula outlined in President Trump’s proposal, with the provision of field conditions necessary for the exchange.”
