Israeli Settler Faces Charges of Espionage for Iran in Missile Strike Damage Intelligence Case
Israeli prosecutors have charged a Jewish settler with espionage on behalf of Iran. According to the allegations, he relayed details to Tehran regarding the extent of damage inflicted on an Israeli airbase during an Iranian missile attack.
On Sunday, prosecutors disclosed that a settler had allegedly transmitted “sensitive information” both prior to and during Israel’s 12-day military conflict with the Islamic Republic in June.
Prosecutors have alleged that the suspect, originally hailing from Iran, maintained communication with a foreign agent and transmitted information with the intent to compromise state security.
Prosecutors have alleged that the settler transmitted sensitive information to Iran at a time when Israel was engaged in a multi-front conflict, particularly against Iran, and was under missile assault.
Reports indicate that he has been accused of disclosing information to an Iranian operative regarding two missile strikes by the Islamic Republic on Israel in 2024, specifically targeting the Nevatim Airbase located in the southern Negev desert.
The suspect allegedly provided Tehran with information regarding Israel’s “plans to strike Iran” and details concerning “the flight paths of Israeli drones.”
The suspect’s name and key identifying information have been withheld from being published.
Israel has detained multiple individuals on allegations of espionage for Tehran following a bold and unprovoked act of aggression against the Islamic Republic, reportedly initiated on June 13.
During the 12-day conflict, the chief military censor of the regime implemented new guidelines and directed editors to adopt “strict measures” in their reporting of missile and drone strikes originating from Iran.
The censor issued a cautionary statement advising against the dissemination of information that might disclose attack positions, air defense activities, or damage evaluations, as such details could potentially benefit adversarial forces.
In June, amid the conflict with the Islamic Republic, the nation’s armed forces launched an extensive attack on Israel, targeting its military and industrial infrastructure. Utilizing new-generation precision missiles, they effectively struck the designated sites.
On October 1, 2024, Iran reportedly initiated a large-scale missile offensive towards the occupied territories, an action termed Operation True Promise II. This operation was described by Iranian officials as more than 90% successful.
A video analysis by The Washington Post revealed that at the time, at least 24 Iranian ballistic missiles penetrated the regime’s air defense systems, targeting three key intelligence and military sites. This included 20 direct strikes on Nevatim Airbase and three on Tel Nof Airbase.
