Yemeni Forces Launch Consecutive Attacks on Saudi-Backed Mercenaries
Yemeni armed forces have initiated a fresh round of ballistic missile and drone strikes targeting Saudi-backed mercenary forces within the nation. The offensive resulted in the deaths of at least two militants, while several others sustained injuries.
Yemeni military forces have launched an assault on Saudi-backed militia members belonging to the Shabwah Defense Forces in the Bayhan district of Shabwah province on Monday. The operation reportedly caused significant casualties among the militia, according to local media sources.
The new development unfolded just hours following new drone assaults by Yemeni army forces targeting the port city of Mokha in Yemen’s southwestern Ta’izz province.
No casualties or damage were initially reported following the strikes that took place late Sunday.
On Sunday, an offensive by the Yemeni army targeted the port of Mokha and surrounding regions, resulting in the deaths of seven Saudi-backed mercenaries and injuring 30 individuals.
In a recent announcement, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, disclosed that Yemeni military units launched an offensive against Saudi-backed forces. The assault, which targeted enemy positions and their arms depots, utilized ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones.
He stated that the missiles and drones accurately hit their intended targets.
Saree reported that the significant operation was carried out as the mercenaries engaged in a large-scale military buildup, gearing up to initiate assaults on Yemeni forces.
On July 20, the Sana’a government declared a maritime blockade targeting Saudi Arabia, accusing Riyadh of enforcing what it described as an “unjust and oppressive siege” on Yemen for almost 12 years. The announcement claimed that Saudi Arabia has been “plundering our resources and implementing a total blockade.”
The Yemeni Armed Forces have reported conducting several successful operations targeting vessels associated with Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia, in coalition with its allies, has enforced a blockade against Yemen, launching an extensive conflict that has received military, political, and logistical backing from the United States and select Western nations.
The ongoing conflict in Yemen has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of individuals. Despite its efforts, Saudi Arabia has not succeeded in its main objective of re-establishing a government in Yemen that is sympathetic to Riyadh’s interests.
