Terrorist ‘israeli’ regime advances plan to build 650 housing units illegally
Zionist authorities have moved forward with plans to construct approximately 650 housing units in a new settlement south of Jerusalem, on land that is near Palestinian residences, according to a statement from the Palestinian Al-Quds Governorate released on Monday.
In a recent statement, the governorate announced that the District Planning and Building Committee of the Israeli authorities has submitted a proposal for the “Nofei Rachel” settlement. This proposed development would span approximately 27 dunams (6.7 acres) and would be situated adjacent to Palestinian residences.
The governorate issued a warning that the project’s impact would transcend the scope of the planned housing units, stating that its location would have a direct effect on the daily lives of Palestinians residing in the area.
The plan was reported to be an element of Israel’s settlement strategy, with the aim of limiting Palestinian presence and urban development, while simultaneously expanding unauthorized settlements and establishing new realities on the ground.
The Israeli rights organization Ir Amim reported on Monday that Israeli authorities have recently progressed three significant settlement plans, proposing over 3,400 housing units in East Jerusalem.
The United Nations, along with the majority of countries worldwide, regard the Israeli settlements established on occupied Palestinian territories as illegal under international law, stating that they hinder chances for achieving a two-state solution.
