Syrian Republican Guard Destroys Another Tunnel in Jobar

TOPSHOTS-SYRIA-CONFLICT

The Syrian Arab Army’s 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard (Harss Al-Jamhouri) discovered a long tunnel belonging to Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) that stretched from the city of Jobar to the village of Al-‘Abbasiyeen in the East Ghouta of the Rif Dimashq Governorate. Before the tunnel was destroyed, the 105th Brigade seized all of the contents that were stored inside of it, including the weapons, ammunition, drugs, and telecommunication devices.

In Harasta, a civilian was killed by an unknown sniper near the Military Hospital; this resulted in the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) confronting a group of armed assailants nearby. For 2 hours, the armed clashes engulfed this area with violence; however, the SAA was able to force these militants out of this area, after the latter was running out of supplies. The militants fled west in order to avoid capture by the SAA – their militant group is unknown.

The SAA and National Defense Forces (NDF) have launched multiple attacks on the Islamic Front (Jabhat Al-Islamiyya) and Al-Nusra Front (Jabhat Al-Nusra) militants entrenched in Hajjar Al-Aswad (Black Stone), while trying to cut-off their main supply line to the decrepit city. Thus far, the SAA and NDF have been successful in taking checkpoints outside of the city, but there is still much fighting left before the latter can enter Hajjar Al-Aswad.

The violence in ‘Ayn Tarma has recently been reignited after the 105th Brigade restarted operations inside the city, targeting a multitude of Jaysh Al-Islam hideouts. Earlier today, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) conducted 9 airstrikes on the militant positions near the Zamalka Bridge, destroying multiple vehicles and killing a number of armed combatants.
