Syrian Cabinet approves bill on amending General Elections Law

20140304-230017 (1)The Cabinet approved Tuesday a bill on amending the General Elections Law issued by Legislative Decree No. 101 for 2011, and a bill on regulating the work of the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The Cabinet also approved a bill ratifying the agreement between Syria, the UN and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) regarding the center for the joint UN-OPCW mission in Syria, in addition to approving a memo of understanding between Syria, the UN and the OPCW on providing medical services and urgent medical evacuation.

During the session, Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi affirmed commitment to combating corruption and revitalizing the economic, industrial, agricultural and development sectors, noting that the economic sector has become stable, and underlining the steps taken to stabilize the SYP exchange rates and the daily drop in prices in markets.

He also stressed the need for rallying resources to boost cultural security and confront distorted ideas like the Wahabi Takfiri mentality.

Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem, briefed the Cabinet on the latest developments on the international arena, lauding the victories of the Syrian Army in pursuing terrorist groups.

In turn, Deputy Prime Minister for Services Affairs, Minister of Local Administration Omar Ghalawanji, briefed the Cabinet on the state of the services and utilities sector and the damages caused to it by repeated terrorist attacks, particularly in the communications and electricity sectors.
