Syrian Army seizes 1,000km2 of territory in southwest Syria – map

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has seized a large chunk of territory from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and their jihadist allies in the southwestern region of Syria since launching their offensive ten days ago.

Led by the Tiger Forces and Republican Guard, the Syrian military began their offensive by storming Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham’s positions in the Al-Lajat region of northeast Daraa.

Within days of launching this attack, the Syrian Arab Army was able to seize a large portion of Al-Lajat, forcing the remaining jihadist rebels to abandon this region for Busra Al-Harir.

Following the capture of Al-Lajat, the Syrian Army shifted their attention to the jihadist stronghold of Busra Al-Harir.

The Syrian Army would seize Busra Al-Harir and several small towns shortly after launching a night assault to capture this jihadist stronghold.

With Busra Al-Harir captured, the Syrian Army would then seize several other towns, including Al-Hirak, before the rebel forces agreed to reconcile a number of localities.

As a result of these reconciliation agreements, the Syrian Arab Army has managed to take control of 1,000 square kilometers of territory from the Free Syrian Army and their jihadist rebels.

The Syrian Army and their allies are now working to clean-up the last towns in eastern Daraa that are still under the control of the rebel forces.
