After a new round of evacuation negotiations fell apart, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued its military operations around the rebel-held town of Khan al-Sheih following the capture of the neighbouring village of Al-Buwaydah yesterday.

Targeting the remaining insurgent areas in the West Ghouta pocket on the outskirts of Damascus, elements of the SAA’s 1st, 4th Mechanized, and 7th Armored divisions were able to secure the entire road from Darushah through Buwaydiyah (Buodiah) to Deir Khabiyah (Dir Khabiah), located northeast of Khan al-Sheih.

The SAA also captured the adjacent Air Defence Housing today.

Due to a series of recent advances which began on October 1st, Syrian government troops have split the West Ghouta rebel pocket in three, disrupting insurgent supply lines and their military coordination.

Khan al-Sheih, a large town primarily held by Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) has become a top priority of the SAA’s resources as government forces seek to secure the entire Syrian capital of Damascus and its outskirts.
