Syria seizes 524,000 Captagon pills in two smuggling attempts from Lebanon in 48 hours

Syrian customs officials have seized approximately 524,000 Captagon pills in two smuggling attempts foiled within 48 hours at the Jdaidet Yabous border crossing with Lebanon, the General Authority for Ports and Customs said Friday.
In the latest operation, customs officials thwarted an attempt to smuggle around 129,000 Captagon pills into Syria, the authority said on Telegram. The seizure followed the confiscation of 395,000 pills on Thursday in an operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department in coordination with the authority.
The pills in Thursday’s shipment were hidden using sophisticated concealment methods before they could reach their intended destination in Damascus Countryside. Suspects involved in the smuggling attempt were arrested and are to be referred to the relevant judicial authorities, the Drug Enforcement Department said.
The seizures are part of ongoing efforts by Syrian authorities to combat drug smuggling and tighten controls at border crossings to prevent narcotics from entering the country.
Recent drug seizures
The Drug Enforcement Department has foiled several other attempts to smuggle narcotics from Lebanon in recent weeks. On Sept. 30, authorities seized 225,000 Captagon pills. On Oct. 6, they confiscated another 210,000 pills along with 62 kilograms of hashish.
Suspects were arrested in connection with those operations and referred to the relevant judicial authorities.
