Russia requests UN Security Council meeting over US aggression on Iraq, Syria

Moscow, SANA- The Russian mission to the UN Security Council on Saturday requested an emergency meeting of the Council following the US aggression that targeted public and private facilities in Syrian and Iraqi territories.

“We have just asked to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council due the threats to peace and security sparked by the US strikes on Iraq and Syria,” Sputnik quoted Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyansky as saying.

Polyansky added: “This month’s Guyanese presidency is planning to schedule it for February 5,”

On Saturday at dawn, the US occupation forces launched a blatant aerial act of aggression on a number of sites and towns in the eastern region of Syria and near the Syrian-Iraqi border, which led to the martyrdom of a number of civilians and soldiers, and the injury of others, in addition to causing significant damage to public and private property.

The aggression also targeted sites in western Anbar Governorate in Iraq, causing many casualties.
