Prime Minister: 3.392 housing units for displaced citizens to be constructed

20140313-190247_h532895Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi inspected Thursday the workshops of al-Herjalleh housing construction project for the displaced and those who were affected by the terrorist acts committed by the armed terrorist groups and the Damascus International Airport road rehabilitation project.

Premier al-Halqi also inspected the maintenance and rehabilitation workshops of Damascus International Airport highway.

The speedy construction project of housing units in Herjalleh area comes at the directives of President Bashar al-Assad and as part of the government’s plan to provide appropriate housing centers for the displaced and the affected, al-Halqi said.

The project is thought to ease pressure on the current 950 housing centers amid swelling numbers of displaced citizens due to terrorist attacks, he added.

The Premier said that the government’s plan stipulates the speedy construction of up to 3, 392 housing centers, including 1,200 units in Damascus countryside, 800 in Homs, 1, 392 in Daraa as SYP 4 billion have been earmarked to these projects according to the reconstruction plan.

The sites have been picked for to their proximity to neighboring countries and the scale of damage wrought to them such as Damascus countryside and Daraa, al-Halqi pointed out.

He reiterated call for displaced citizens -who have been forced out of their homes and left for camps in neighboring countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq or Turkey -to return.

On Herjalleh housing project carried out by the General Company for Construction, al-Halqi said that 300 housing units will be constructed in the area in parallel with the construction of other units in Adra, stressing the government’s interest to provide all requirements needed for consummating these projects.

Al-Halqi said that workshops have started work at the Damascus International Airport road rehabilitation project carried out by the Military Construction Company at an overall cost of approximately SYP178 million.

He affirmed that Damascus airport is working at full swing as Aleppo International Airport has been put in service again following the achievements of the Syrian army on the ground.
