For the first time in five years, the Aleppo-Hasakah Highway has been reopened for commerce and travel to all Syrian citizens.

A recent agreement put in place by the Syrian government and PYD (Kurdish party) has allowed for the Aleppo-Hasakah Highway to be reopened, with all pro-government and pro-Kurdish forces manning the checkpoints along the roadway.

In the past, if Syrians wanted to go from Al-Hasakah to Damascus, they would have to fly from the Al-Qamishli Airport, which is very expensive.

This latest agreement comes just weeks after both the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) secured the roads that feed into the Aleppo-Hasakah Highway.

With this highway reopened, the Syrian government Kurdish forces will be able to easily transport supplies from Al-Hasakah to Aleppo, which is imperative for the latter because it will link their Rojava pockets.
