Jordanian border guards have arrested seven militants from Syria as the latter were trying to infiltrate into Jordan.

The Jordanian army said on Sunday that the border guards clashed with a group of the militants, who were attempting to enter Jordan illegally.

They arrested four of the militants who were injured in the clashes, the army said, adding that they were transferred to a hospital.

Three other militants “voluntarily handed themselves over to the border guards,” it also said.

“The three men hold Jordanian nationality as well as the nationality of an[other] Arab country,” the army added without giving more details.

Hundreds of Jordanians fight alongside the foreign-backed militants inside Syria.

Damascus has accused Jordan of assisting the militants in Syria.

According to reports that apeared in late January, the US has been sending weapons for the militants in the south of Syria via Jordan.

Earlier reports also indicated that Washington has set up secret bases in Jordan to provide the militants with trainings by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The training program was secretly authorized by US President Barack Obama, aimed at training a few hundred Syria militants each month.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011. Some sources say around 130,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by Western-backed militants.

According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey – are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
