ISIS suffers heavy casualties in failed offensive north of Palmyra

The so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” (ISIS) launched a large-scale offensive in the northeastern countryside of Homs on Thursday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses near the desert village of Huwaysis and the Jazal Mountains located north of Palmyra.

ISIS reportedly began the attack by sending two waves of fighters to storm the Syrian Arab Army’s defenses near Huwaysis, resulting in heavy clashes that lasted for most of the morning on Thursday.

Unable to penetrate the Syrian Arab Army’s first line of defense outside of Huwaysis, the Islamic State terrorists were forced to withdraw north in order to avoid the Syrian Arab Air Force’s (SAAYF) swarming fighter jets.

According to local media, the Syrian Arab Army killed over 60 Islamic State terrorists, while also destroying 8 armored vehicles that belonged to the aforementioned terrorist group – Al-Masdar News cannot verify these numbers at the moment.
