IRGC Warns New Aggression Against Iran Could Expand War Theater
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) warned that any further aggression against Iran would lead to significant changes in Tehran’s defensive and retaliatory measures, including the scope of the conflict, the weapons deployed and the targets hit.
In an interview, IRGC spokesman Brigadier General Hossein Mohebbi said Iran was prepared for a prolonged conflict and warned that any renewed aggression would draw a substantially different response, potentially broadening the conflict’s geographical scope.
He said the IRGC believes Washington suffered a “historic and disgraceful defeat” in its war with Iran, Israel and their allies but lacks the courage to acknowledge or accept it.
He specifically cited the U.S. failure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, saying Washington had been unable to restore access to the strategic waterway despite having the world’s largest navy and defining its regional and global role around securing energy flows and freedom of navigation.
The IRGC spokesperson also claimed that the United States had suffered a defeat over its military bases in the region, saying Iranian missiles and drones had targeted all of them and rendered most inoperable.
Asked whether the ongoing conflict marked a new phase or remained part of the same war, General Mohebbi said it was “the same war” from his perspective. He said the conflict had entered different phases but had not ended and was continuing.
The spokesman said the IRGC had already prepared for a prolonged conflict and was now even better equipped to confront such a scenario.
General Mohebbi warned that any renewed aggression would trigger a fundamentally different response from Iran.
“If further aggression occurs, there will undoubtedly be major changes to our defense and counteroffensive operations,” he said.
He cited the conflict’s geographic scope as the first major change, warning that “we will definitely change the geography of the war.”
The spokesperson said the changes would also include the weapons and military equipment used by Iran, adding that new weapons with enhanced capabilities would be deployed on the battlefield and “surprise the world.”
The IRGC spokesperson said Iran would revise its targets if aggression resumed, adding that Tehran’s objectives would not necessarily remain limited to those previously struck. He said Iran had identified new targets that had not yet been attacked.
He said Iran has developed various weapons during and before the war, with its capabilities undergoing continuous upgrades.
According to Mohebbi, some of the weapons have not been used in the conflict’s previous phases. He called them Iran’s “strategic weapons” and said they would be deployed if necessary.
