Iran’s Syria strategy logical

Iran: Hurting Ayatollah Qassim, strategic mistakeIran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian says Tehran’s strategy for the crisis in Syria has been “logical”.
“In the past three years we, despite all problems, have adopted an accurate and logical strategy on the issue of Syria,” Amir-Abdollahian said on Sunday.
He further said those who are against Tehran’s policies in Syria will not achieve their goals.
“Those who in opposition to our strategies intend to get united and topple the Syrian government will not succeed,” he said.
He went on to say that the Islamic Republic has held talks with all opposition groups in Syria and encouraged them to play an effective role in the Arab country following the upcoming presidential vote.
The presidential vote will be held in the government-controlled parts of the crisis-hit country on June 3. Syrians living abroad are also set to vote on May 28.
Amir-Abdollahian further noted that Iran has been sending humanitarian supplies to Syria to help the Syrian people.
“Today Iran has the highest volume of humanitarian aid sent to Syria” in proportion to the assistance sent by other countries in the region, he said.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. Over 160,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by the foreign-backed militants.
According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
