Addressing  the 39th Quran Competition of Qom Province, Ayatollah Sayyed Ahmad Khatami referred to the blessings of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution and said that besides the many blessings that the Islamic Revolution has had, it has brought the Holy Quran out of isolation and brought it to the forefront.

According to Rasa, the member of the board of directors of the Assembly of Experts said that it may be asked whether or not the Quran was present before the Revolution and it must be said that there were physical copies of the Quran but the soul of the Quran was not present.

“Thanks to the blood of martyrs, the Quran was brought out of isolation and all the martyrs from before the Revolution and through the Holy Defence era [Iran-Iraq War] until today, and also by the defenders of the holy shrines, have protected the Holy Quran and Quranic culture,” he said.

Ayatollah Khatami said the recitation, preservation and interpretation of the Quran was the prelude to bringing the Quran to the forefront and after the Islamic Revolution, the Quran was applied in the field of government and this is something that is arguably unprecedented in the history of the Iranian government.

His Eminence stated that the Iranian constitution under the tyrannous Pahlavi regime was written based on foreign laws, especially the Belgian constitution. “The foundation of the of the Shah’s regime was based on the law of the foreigners but the foundation of our constitution is the Quran and the family of the Prophet Muhammad,” he emphasized.

The member of the Supreme Council of Islamic Seminaries added that during the 57-year reign of Reza Shah and Mohammad-Reza Shah, Iran had no independence, let alone Quranic independence. From the 1921 coup d’état until the 1953 coup d’état, Iran was completely dominated by the United Kingdom.

“After the 1953 coup d’état, Iran was under the control of the United States and Iran did not have independence until the victory of the Islamic Revolution,” he added.

Ayatollah Khatami noted that after the Revolution, the late Imam Khomeini planted the seeds of the hatred of the imperialist powers in the hearts of the people. It was the Imam who explained that “America is the Great Satan” and “American can’t do a damned thing” and established the slogan of “Death to America” as the first slogan of the Iranian nation.

“This is all rooted in the Quran,” he stressed.
