Hezbollah strikes Israeli positions after three killed in southern Lebanon airstrike

Fighters from Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement have launched a volley of rockets at Israeli military positions in the northern flank of the 1948-occupied territories, after an Israeli airstrike on a southern Lebanese border town killed three people.

Lebanon’s Arabic-language al-Manar television channel, citing a Hezbollah statement, reported that the group had targeted a “new command center” near the Israeli naval base in Rosh HaNikra, and fired at least 18 rockets at the site.

A number of Israeli soldiers were also injured, when Lebanese resistance fighters struck Dhaira and Hadb al-Bustan outposts.

Hezbollah said in a separate statement on Wednesday that it launched heavy-caliber Burkan (Volcano) missiles at the Israeli Khirbet Maer site post near the border, inflicting casualties.

The Israeli military has announced the death of one of its occupation forces and the serious injury of another in a retaliatory strike by Hezbollah on the north of the occupied territories.

Israeli artillery and tanks, meanwhile, shelled the outskirts of al-Naqoura city, Aita al-Shaab village, and al-Hamames hilltop south of al-Khiam.

Israeli forces pounded the outskirts of al-Jibbain, Tayr Harfa and Yarine villages as well.

Moreover, Israeli soldiers along the border fired heavy machine guns towards areas bordering Lebanese forests.

Earlier on Wednesday, three people were killed in an Israeli aerial raid on a house in southern Lebanon.

“Enemy warplanes raided, before midnight (2200 GMT), a house… in the center of the town of Bint Jbeil,” around two kilometers (a little over a mile) from the border, killing a man, his brother and his wife, Lebanon’s official National News Agency said.

The NNA identified the deceased as Ali Bazzi, his brother Ibrahim and his wife Shourouk Hammoud.

Another family member was wounded, it added.

Hezbollah later announced that Ali Bazzi was one of its fighters.

A relative told AFP news agency that Ibrahim Bazzi was an Australian citizen, who had flown in for a visit about a week ago.

The Israeli regime has been waging sporadic attacks on southern Lebanon since October 7, when it launched a devastating war against the besieged Gaza Strip.

Hezbollah has mounted near daily rocket attacks on Israeli positions at the border, while Israel has conducted air and artillery strikes in southern Lebanon.

More than 150 people have been killed on the Lebanese side of the border since October 7, mostly Hezbollah fighters and more than a dozen civilians, according to an AFP tally.

Israel says at least six of its soldiers and four settlers have been killed in the area, and the Lebanese army lost a soldier.

More than a dozen Lebanese civilians, three of them journalists, have also lost their lives in the exchanges.
