The Hamas Movement has condemned the “brutal assault” which Palestinian Authority (PA) security forces carried out on Monday against peaceful protestors outside the UN headquarters in Ramallah city. Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri stated that the assault on the protesters in Ramallah reflected a disregard for the suffering of prisoners in Israeli jails and the size of PA security violations against the citizens in the West Bank.

Abu Zuhri also pointed to the killing incidents that happened recently in Nablus city, calling for a serious national stand in the face of the security deterioration in the West Bank. The PA security forces on Monday morning attacked protesters participating in a sit-in staged in Ramallah in solidarity with hunger striker Bilal Kayed and other prisoners.

The participants closed the UN headquarters in protest at its failure to assume its responsibilities towards the Palestinian prisoners, especially the hunger strikers, in Israeli jails. Two young protesters were kidnapped and physically assaulted by PA security elements before they were released, according to local sources.
