Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi says Iraqi fighter jets have pounded the positions of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in Syria. A source close to the Syrian Foreign Ministry said the airstrikes were conducted in “complete coordination” with the Damascus government.

Marcus Papadopoulos, editor of Politics First magazine, believes that this “positive” development will put Daesh in very “precarious situation” because it is faced with a “lethal coalition” comprised of Syria, Russia, Iran, Iraq and Lebanon’s Hezbollah fighters.

Now it is only “a matter of time” until Daesh is “completely eradicated,” the analyst told Press TV in an interview on Friday.

Thos who want to witness the destruction of Daesh “should be rejoicing” at the Iraqi airstrikes on the militants’ positions, he said.

He added that the Iraqi air force’s recent airstrikes on Daesh positions in Syria demonstrate the close relations between the two countries.

“The other point to make is one of international law”, the analyst said, asserting that the fact the Iraqi operation in Syria is in coordination with Damascus obviously stands in contrast to the US-led coalition allegedly bombing Daesh without the permission of the Syrian government.
