A least 14 people have been killed and over 20 more injured in a bomb blast in Iraq’s western province of Anbar.

The Tuesday attack took place in the province’s city of Hit after a bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up close to the al-Shaimaa school.

The area around the school has been cordoned off by security forces. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it has the hallmark of the Daesh terrorist group.

The recent attack comes just one day after two bomb explosions have hit the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, killing a total of at least 27 people and injuring 100 others just days after the start of the holy month of Ramadan, when Iraqi families often stay out late after breaking their daily fast.

Daesh has recently increased its terrorist activities across Iraq in revenge for the blows it has been suffering at the hands of Iraqi forces and pro-government popular fighters, particularly in the northern city of Mosul, the terror group’s last urban bastion in the Arab country.

Iraqi forces took control of eastern Mosul in January and launched the battle in its west in February.
