Arab League calls on Security Council to take action to stop violations by Israeli settlers

Cairo, SANA-The Arab League has condemned the frenzied campaign that Israeli settlers continue to wage against the cities and towns of the West Bank, calling on the UN Security Council to act to end this situation.

“Settlers carry out attacks, most of which occur under the protection of the occupation authorities, which encourage these shameful operations, thus entrenching a general state of impunity and continued audacity against Palestinian lives and property,” the League said in a statement Monday.

The statement stressed that ” the crimes committed by the occupation on a daily basis in the Gaza Strip should not cover up the apparent rise in the frequency and seriousness of violent crimes, the burning of houses and agricultural lands and the destruction of property committed by armed settlers every day.”

It noted that “the occupation government is in fact the government of the settlers covering up their crimes, and not being held accountable for the atrocities they commit”.

The statement noted that “the imposition of sanctions by some countries on a number of settlers represents a small, late and insufficient step to deter the escalating phenomenon and to provide protection to Palestinians in the West Bank.”

It stressed ” the need for the Security Council to act to end this shameful situation, put an end to the state of impunity in the West Bank, and make these dying settlers pay the price for their continued crimes against the Palestinian people”.
