World obliged to help Syria fight off terrorism

357964_Syria-destruction1A top Iranian diplomat has called on countries the world over to help Syria fight terrorism as the deadly crisis lingers on in the Arab country.
“All countries are obliged to assist Syria in fighting terrorism,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told activists with the international convoy called “Pilgrims of Peace” in Tehran on Wednesday evening.
Syria has been plagued by relentless militancy since March 2011. Damascus says the West and its regional allies have been fuelling violence in Syria by providing militants fighting against the government with money and weapons.
The Iranian diplomat also rejected any foreign intervention as a way to settle the crisis in the country, adding that the Syrian people will decide for their own future.
“Nobody from the outside can decide for the wise Syrian people,” he stated.
The Iranian official further urged the necessity of dispatching humanitarian aid to Syria and called for a political solution to the crisis in the Middle Eastern country.
The members of the international convoy pointed to the support that Iran has lent to the Syrian people, appreciating the efforts by the Islamic Republic in that regard.
The convoy also had a meeting with Iranian Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani earlier in the day, discussing the crisis in Syria.
Earlier in the month, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the total deaths resulting from the ongoing crisis in Syria amounted to 150,344 people.
The London-based group that supports the so-called Syria opposition said there were 51,212 civilians, including 7,985 children, among the dead.
