West irresolute in solving Syria crisis: Iran’s Larijani

West-irresolute-in-solving-Syria-crisisIran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has warned of the spread of terrorism to Europe, saying Western countries are not resolute in resolving the crisis in Syria.
Addressing an international parliamentary meeting on the ongoing Syrian crisis in Tehran on Wednesday, Larijani added that the Geneva II conference on Syria failed to produce any results because the US administration does not want the problem solved.
“The concern of dictators in the region about Syria is a kind of deceit and is unbelievable. Without reliance on the US and the West, dictators have no chance of any presence in the Middle East and North Africa,” he said.
He said that the West is using terrorism as a tool in Syria in order to break the resistance against Israel.
The top Iranian official, however, warned that the threat of terrorism will one day engulf European countries as well.
He further criticized the international community’s inaction regarding acts of terror in Syria.
“International circles are watching the events [in Syria] and make no move. They only make political gestures and speak but tragedies continue to take place in Syria,” Larijani said.
He also stressed the importance of settling the crisis in Syria through diplomatic approaches, saying elections are the only solution to the issue and that the Syrian people themselves should determine their own future.
Iran is hosting an international parliamentary conference to discuss the ongoing crisis in Syria.
The one-day meeting is attended by heads of parliamentary foreign policy committees from Russia, Algeria, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon. Representatives from the Cuban and Venezuelan embassies in Tehran have also attended the meeting.
Syria has been the scene of deadly violence since March 2011. Over 130,000 people have reportedly been killed and millions displaced due to the turmoil.
According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies — Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey — are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
