US, Israel, Turkey waging own war against Syria: Ja’afari

Syria’s envoy to the UN has censured deadly US-led airstrikes on an army air base in Dayr al-Zawr, saying the raids show Washington, along with Turkey and Israel, have moved from a proxy war to a “personal” one in the Arab state.

Speaking at the UN Security Council meeting in New York on Wednesday, Bashar Ja’afari said the United States flouted the terms of the ceasefire meant to end hostilities in Syria, but the Damascus government committed itself to the demands of the deal.

He also criticized the international community for its failure to condemn the US-led coalition’s air strikes near Dayr al-Zawr airbase, saying the raid killed 83 Syrian soldiers and wounded 100 others.

The truce, brokered by Russia and the US, has begun on September 12 and was agreed to last seven days, but Damascus declared an end to the ceasefire after its army base came under attack in violation of the deal.

Ja’afari further dismissed as unfounded some Western media reports that Russia “targeted UN aid convoy on outskirts of Aleppo in revenge for earlier air strike on Syrian troops,” stressing that the current “dirty” propaganda campaign is being pursued by the parties that seek political blackmail to advance their agendas.

The Syrian UN envoy also made a reference to Turkey’s “illegitimate” ground and aerial attacks on the Syrian soil under the pretext of striking Daesh positions, arguing that the assault comes without the Damascus government’s consent and cooperation with the Russian operational command center in Syria.

“These attacks amount to aggression against Syria under the international law,” Ja’afari noted.

The Israeli regime has also carried out a series of attacks on positions of the Syrian army in the Golan Heights. Analysts say the raids are meant to provide air cover for the Takfiri terrorists operating there.

Ja’afari also stressed that Damascus is ready to resume the Syrian-Syrian dialogue without any preconditions in order to work out a political solution to the ongoing crisis in the country and safeguard the territorial integrity of Syria.

Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. Over the past few months, the Takfiri militants active in the Arab country have suffered major setbacks as the Syrian army has managed to liberate several areas.

According to UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, more than 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict in Syria. The UN has stopped its official casualty count in Syria, citing its inability to verify the figures it receives from various sources.
