A Turkish sergeant who was serving in the Syrian border patrol, went beyond borders and disappeared when chasing smugglers, Turkish media reported.

He is assumed to be kidnapped by the so-called ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIL) terrorist group, but local officials also point out the possibility of smugglers over kidnapping claims.

According to the Turkish daily Haberturk, the incident happened in Kilis province’s Yavuzlu village on the border. A group of smugglers was detected around the mined area and as soldiers pursue smugglers, a sergeant who had served as the commander of the troops, passed the Syrian side of the border in pursuit of the group.

As he did not come back, it was assumed the sergeant was kidnapped.
Local officials points ISIL for the kidnapping, but smugglers and Syrian Kurdish forces PYD also blamed by some.
