Terrorists will face defeat: Ali Akbar Velayati

A senior Iranian official says terrorists in the region will eventually suffer defeat despite receiving support from Western countries and certain regional states.

Today, we see that whatever the terrorists do in the region comes undone, Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior adviser to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei told reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham in Tehran on Monday.

Velayati also expressed Iran’s support for the people and leadership of Syria, adding, “As the Leader of the Islamic Revolution stated, the Islamic Republic of Iran stands by the oppressed people and defends them.”

He further said that all the Middle East developments pointed to a “broad plot” hatched by the United States as well as the Israeli regime and “reactionary states” in the region.

“The United States, regional reactionaries and the Zionists have gone hand in hand to eliminate the resistance and create a safe haven for the Zionist regime [Israel], but their dreams will not be realized and they will not succeed,” Veleyati said.

The Iranian official noted that the Syrian people now trust in President Bashar al-Assad more than ever as he is fighting “the Zionists and the ISIL Takfiri terrorists prudently and strongly.”

The Syrian army and pro-government forces have been fighting foreign-backed militants in the Arab country since March 2011.

The ISIL Takfiris currently control parts of Syria and Iraq. They have threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians, Izadi Kurds, and others, as they continue atrocities there.

The ongoing militancy in Syria has killed 222,000 people to date, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says.

Serious fight against terrorism

Meanwhile, the speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly criticized the countries that support terrorist groups and said such an attitude has spread terrorism across Iraq and Syria.

Al-Laham added that his country would proceed with its anti-terror campaign, saying everyone who seeks to fight terrorism should cooperate with the Syrian government and nation.

The Syrian speaker expressed hope that the ISIL Takfiris would suffer a defeat in the region.
