Syrian Security Forces Stop Two Would-be Suicide Bombers in Latakia

On Tuesday afternoon, the Syrian security forces stopped two suspicious vehicles inside the provincial capital of the Latakia Governorate after monitoring the cars over the last three days.

The first vehicle inspected by the Syrian security forces was a black Kia Rio that possessed a Lebanese license plate; it was packed with 400 kg of explosive material that required the Syrian Arab Army’s Engineering Corps to dismantle – the driver and passenger were then taken into custody after this discovery.

Following the inspection of the first vehicle, the Syrian security forces discovered more explosives in the second vehicle, which was described as a black Hyundai Sonata with dark tinted windows.

According to a military source in Latakia, the second vehicle had a number of suicide vests, assault rifles, ammunition, and IED (improvised explosive device) material – the passenger and driver of this vehicle were also taken into custody after the Syrian security forces uncovered these weapons.

The source added that all 4 suspects were Syrian nationals that were living in Tripoli, Lebanon who planned to carry out terrorist activities in the city of Qurdaha – the birthplace of the Syrian President, Dr. Bashar Al-Assad.

All of the explosives inside the two vehicles were either confiscated or dismantled by the Syrian Arab Army’s Engineering Corps on Tuesday afternoon.
