Syria in Last 24 Hours: Fresh Clashes Reported Between US-Backed Militias, Civilians in Raqqa

 

Residents of a village in Northwestern Raqqa engaged in fierce clashes with the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the past 24 hours.

Local sources reported on Friday that several militants and civilians were wounded in the clash.

People in the village of Rosai al-Jala in Northwestern Raqqa fought with the SDF, the sources reported, adding that a number of the militias and the villagers have been injured.

The clashes came after the SDF broke into civilians’ houses in the village.

Meantime, the Syrian army continued its military advances in other parts of Syria over past 24 hours.

Tens of terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured during the Syrian army’s operations in provinces across Syria.

Raqqa

The clashes came after the SDF broke into civilians’ houses in the village.

In the meantime, two SDF members were killed in the town of al-Mansoureh near the town of Solouk by unknown raiders.

The SDF, also, arrested several young men in the villages and towns in Northern Raqqa under a forced recruitment plan.

Lattakia

Russian air defense units at the Humeimim airbase shot down an aerial drone launched by militants operating in Syria’s province of Lattakia, the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation said.

“On Thursday August 9, the air defense systems of the Humeimim airbase detected an aerial drone launched from the territory controlled by illegal armed groups in the north of Lattakia province,” the center said in a statement, adding that the drone was intercepted at a safe distance from the base, Sputnik reported.

According to the center, the incident incurred no casualties or material damage, and the operations at the base were not interrupted.

This is not the first time Russian military downs drones launched at the Humeimim airbase. Previous month, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Russian Air Force destroyed a UAV, launched from the territory under the control of illegal armed formations North of the province of Lattakia.

Aleppo

Ankara has embarked on changing streets’ names and numbers in the occupied town of Afrin under fresh attempts to annex the region to its soil, local sources said Friday.

The sources reported that Afrin Local City Council affiliated to the Ankara-backed Free Army has embarked on renaming streets and squares in the town.

The sources said that some of the streets and squares have been named after Turkish figures, adding that the names of streets are written in both Arabic and Turkish alphabets.

They went on to say that the Ankara-backed militants have changed al-Saraya Square to Recep Tayyip Erdogan Square and Kawa Square to Olive Branch Square that is the codename of a military operation by the Turkish troops in the region.

Idlib

Local sources reported on Friday that terrorists were arresting an increasing number of pro-peace activists in Idlib as the Syrian Army distributed thousands of leaflets, encouraging militants to join peace with Damascus government, local sources reported on Friday.

The sources said that the army’s helicopters dropped thousands of leaflets over the town of Taftnaz in Northeastern Idlib, calling on militants to surrender to the government forces.

They further said that Tahrir al-Sham Hay’at (the Levant Liberation Board or the Al-Nusra Front) restarted arresting pro-peace people in the villages and towns of Barisa, Ma’ardebsi, Kana’esh, Tal Toqan, Ra’as al-Ein, Samka, al-Barasa, Farvan, Ma’asaran and Hazan in Southeastern Idlib.

The sources went on to say that gunmen of the National Liberation Front arrested those militants that tried to sign the peace agreement with the army in the village of Tarmala in Southeastern Idlib and in Northwestern Hama.
