Prominent Bahraini Cleric Sheikh Isa Qassim arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday and was immediately taken to hospital.
Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa Qassim arrived in the United Kingdom on Monday and was immediately taken to hospital.
The news came from a team tasked with overseeing his health shortly after he departed from Manama to receive medical treatment in London.
In its latest update, the team reported that “primary medical procedures will be immediately carried out from this evening until tomorrow morning by specialized doctors.”
Sheikh Qassim, Bahrain’s highest religious authority, was hospitalized in late June for severe pelvic and back pains.
His health had deteriorated ever since Manama’s security forces stormed his home last May and placed him under house arrest.
Sheikh Qassim was arbitrarily stripped of his nationality in June 2016 and confined to Diraz for speaking out against Manama’s policies.
