A senior Iraqi Sunni cleric said Saudi Wahabi sheikhs are behind the formation and spread of extremist and terrorist groups.

Khalid al-Mala, who heads Iraq’s Sunni Scholars Association, urged Saudi sheikhs to admit their mistakes and change their path.

He noted that it becomes more and more obvious day after day that the conduct and approaches of Takfiri extremists are the same as Wahabis’.

Such groups design their plots in the name of Islam and based on the ideologies of Wahabis and Salafists, he added.

Al-Mala also underlined the need for Muslim unity in the face of terrorist Takfiri groups like the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the levant (ISIL), al-Alam news network reported.

The ISIL terrorists currently control swathes of territory across Syria and Iraq.

They have committed terrible atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals.
