The US-led coalition is stepping up its efforts to defeat the Islamic State as the latter appears to be losing ground across a number of important battlefields.
In total, US-led 36 airstrikes were conducted against ISIS militants on February 23, a statement released by Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) revealed. 8 of the airstrikes were conducted in support of the advancing Iraqi Army near Mosul.
Meanwhile, 17 airstrikes were conducted in and around Raqqa. The rest targeted the cities of Abu Kamal, Deir Ezzor, Palmyra, and Al-Bab.
According to the CJTF statement, one airstrike destroyed an ISIS tank near Al-Bab while another air raid destroyed 6 oil tankers at Deir Ezzor.
Most of the airstrikes were conducted in support of the Syrian Democratic Forces that captured a handful of villages from ISIS on Friday.
