The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is on the roll in the Syrian capital, capturing a large batch of buildings from Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), Ahrar Al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) in an embattled east Damascus suburb.

Advancing in the southern sector of the Al-Qaboun neighborhood once again, the 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard captured approximately 20 new buildings around the Industrial Institution Area.

Meanwhile, the 42nd Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division renewed its push on the western axis, coming within striking distance of the Al-Taqwah Mosque.

Notably, the latter advance has Syrian government troops just 250 meters from severing the Al-Qaboun rebel pocket down the middle.

With a massive network of tunnels being uncovered on at a time, insurgents increasingly lack mobility, thereby reducing them to sitting ducks for Syrian airstrikes and shelling.

Although territorial advances were substantial, the confirmed rebel death toll was fairly low with only 5 militants killed on Saturday which nevertheless included a field commander.

Last year, the SAA also cut the Daraya suburb in two in a similar military campaign; this manuever quickly prompted rebel commanders to capitulate.

Just three rebel enclaves remain around Damascus. Yesterday, HTS militants in the Yarmouk Camp pocket agreed to have their forces evacuated to Idlib.
