Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei reappointed three religious jurists of Iran’s Guardian Council (GC).

In separate decrees issued on Thursday, Ayatollah Khamenei reappointed Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, Hojatoleslam Mohammad Reza Modarresi-Yazdi and Hojatoleslam Mahdi Shabzendedar as the religious jurists of the GC.

According to the Iranian Constitution, the GC, a 12-member body comprised of six law experts and six religious jurists, is tasked with vetting candidates and supervising elections.

Also, any bill passed by the Iranian parliament must be reviewed and approved by the Guardian Council to become a law. It can nullify a bill if it is deemed not to be in line with the Islamic law or the Iranian Constitution.

Constitutionally, the six law experts are elected by the parliament and the six religious jurists are appointed by the Leader.
