Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Sayyed Imam Ali Khamenei has pardoned or commuted the sentences of 631 convicts on the occasion of the upcoming anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.

The Leader of the Islamic Ummah and Oppressed People Sayyed Imam Ali Khamenei granted clemency to the convicts deemed fit to receive it on Wednesday, following a request by Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani.

Those granted clemency had been convicted in local courts of arbitration, the country’s Islamic Revolution Court, the judicial apparatus serving Iran’s Armed Forces, and the State Discretionary Punishment Organization.

On Friday, Iran will mark the 38th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, which put an end to the monarchical rule of the US-backed Pahlavi regime.

The Islamic Revolution, under the leadership of Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic, established a new political system based on Islamic values and democracy.
