he so-called “Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham” (ISIS) launched their largest attack at the T-4 Military Airport on Thursday, targeting the checkpoints and small installations around the base’s southern, northern, and eastern flanks.

ISIS began the assault by launching a number of suicide bombers towards the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses along the Furqalas-Palmyra Road and Palmyra-Homs Highway, causing massive explosions that could be heard several kilometers away.

Following the suicide bombings, the Islamic State terrorists repeatedly stormed the Syrian Army’s positions, resulting in fierce clashes that would last for much of the day on Thursday.

With help from the Russian Air Force, who carried out sorties for much of the day, the Syrian Arab Army was able to drive back the terrorist forces, killing over 35 militants before securing the entire T-4 Military Airport’s defensive flanks.

As a result of this ISIS assault, the Syrian Armed Forces launched a swift counter-attack to retake territory they lost earlier this week – no gains reported thus far.
