Iran’s defense minister pledges to help rebuild Syria

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami and his Syrian counterpart General Ali Abdullah Ayyoub signed a bilateral agreement in Damascus on Sunday, to increase military and defense cooperation between the two nations.

Iranian Minister of Defense (MoD) Brigadier General Amir Hatami arrived in Syrian capital city of Damascus on Sunday afternoon at the head of a senior military and defense delegation.

The accord was signed after comprehensive rounds of negotiations between the Iranian Defense Minister and Syrian officials, including Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The pact highlights the expansion of defence and military cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Syrian Arab Republic.

“Both the private sector in Iran and the defence industries of the Islamic Republic of Iran, God willing, will try based on this agreement to have serious participation in strengthening Syria’s defense infrastructure, which is the main guarantor of security and the preservation of peace,” said the Iranian defense minister in the ceremony for signing the agreement.

Ali Abdullah Ayyoub, on his part, hailed the role of Iran in helping the Syrian government achieve victories against militants.

“This trip is being taken in line with continued meetings and talks among officials of the two countries, as well as bilateral coordination and cooperation, especially in fighting terrorist groups and fighting war-mongering schemes of the American-Zionist axis of evil.” reiterated General Ali Abdullah Ayyoub.
