Chief of Staff of Iranian Armed Forces congratulated Iraqi forces victory in liberating Mosul from Daesh terrorist group.

Major General Mohammad Baqeri in separate messages on Sunday to Iraqi Prime Minister Heidar al-Abadi, Secretary-General of Badr Organization Hadi al-Amiri, Defense Minister Irfan al-Hayali, and the Deputy Commander of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis congratulated the liberation of the strategic city of Mosul and the fall of self-declared Caliphate of Daesh to the country’s people, government, and the armed forces.

“The victory, no doubt, is the manifestation of Iraq’s national unity and resistance; it also gives us good news of defeat and complete collapse of Takfiri terrorists in Iraq,” he said in one of his messages.

“The historic and great victory was a promise of elimination of Takfiri terrorists’ sedition and establishment of sustainable security in Iraq; it is also an indication of the importance of PMF and its role in the future of the country,” reads his message to al-Muhandis.

Mosul fell in June 2014, when Daesh in an attack took control of the city. Iraqi forces launched the operation to retake Mosul on October 16, 2016.

The eastern part of Mosul was recaptured from Daesh in about three months and the most populated part of the city, known as the Old City of Mosul, in the western bank of Tigris River was liberated in recent days.
