Hamas to hold meeting with factions over Gaza

The Hamas Movement will hold an extensive meeting in Gaza on Sunday evening with officials from major Palestinian factions and the High Commission for Marches of Return and Breaking the Siege.

The Palestinian Information Center (PIC) quoted senior Hamas official Husam Badran as saying that the meeting would be held at 04:00 pm at Commodore Hotel today to discuss important issues related to the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Since last Thursday, a high-level delegation of Hamas officials, who live at home and abroad, have been in Gaza to participate in important discussions about the national reconciliation process, the blockade, the ceasefire with Israel, and the efforts to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the population.

In a related context, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said that the issue of maintaining a truce in Gaza would be decided within the national framework, slamming officials from Fatah for trying to score political points in this regard.

“Fatah’s scoring of points are rejected, and those who are boasting about living under the boots of the occupation and having security cooperation with it have no right to score points over the sacrifices of Gaza,” Abu Zuhri said on his Twitter page.

Abu Zuhri made his remarks in response to Fatah spokesman Osama al-Qawasmi, who verbally attacked Hamas’s current efforts to reach a long-standing ceasefire with Israel, as part of endeavors being made by Egypt and the UN to spare the population another war and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Qawasmi described these efforts as another coup d’etat against the Palestinian people and their homeland, and a free gift to Israel.
