Gaza: Over 14,600 newborns registered in three months

The Palestinian interior ministry’s civil affairs offices recorded 14,630 new births in all provinces of the Gaza Strip during the first quarter of 2017.

In a local radio program, director general of the civil affairs authority Ahmed al-Halimi stated that the population in Gaza increased to 2,031,000 people, with 51 percent male and 49 percent female.

Halimi said that more than 70 percent of the Gaza population is children and young people, pointing out that 850,000 citizens are aged between one day and 16 years.

According to previous statistics released by the civil affairs authority, 58,170 newborns were recorded in all Gaza provinces during 2016, at a rate of 160 births per day.
