Elaheh Ahmadi among world’s top air rifle women shooters

Female Iranian sports shooter Elaheh Ahmadi has secured a place among the world’s top ten athletes of the 10-meter air rifle women division in the May edition of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) rankings.

According to the latest monthly rankings released by the ISSF, the governing body of the Olympic Shooting events in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun disciplines, and of several non-Olympic Shooting sport tournaments, the 34-year-old Iranian collected 819 points to be named the world’s 7th best sportswoman in this category.

Virginia Thrasher from the United States bagged 2,619 points to land in the first spot. Chinese female sports shooter Du Li amassed 1,943 points and landed in the second slot. YI Siling and SHI Mengyao also from China stood third and fourth respectively with 1,584 and 1,100 points.

On  May 16, 2016, , the Iranian squad, consisting of Elaheh Ahmadi, Mahlagha Jambozorg and Najmeh Khedmati, received the bronze medal at the end of women’s 50-meter rifle prone team competitions in the International Shooting Competitions of Hanover (ISCH).

Swiss national team was named the champion in this category, and was followed by the German squad who claimed the second spot and finished as the runner-up.

The International Shooting Competition of Hanover in Junior and Senior sections kicked off in Germany on May 7, and wrapped up on May 15, 2016.
