The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is preparing to reopen the Hama-Homs Highway to the public for the first time in years, a military source told Al-Masdar News this afternoon.

According to the source, the Syrian military began removing the barricades around the Al-Rastan Bridge after the militants handed over their last batch of heavy weapons.

While the Hama-Homs Highway had been periodically used by the both the rebel forces and Syrian Arab Army in the past, it has not been opened to the public since the war broke-out in 2011.

Opening this highway to the public is incredibly important to the Syrian government, as it will increase commerce and give the military direct access to the Hama Governorate from Homs.
